The Jones family has been referred to your service in a small regional Queensland town after a Child Concern report was raised with Child Safety Services. You are a Family/Youth Support worker in a local Child and Family Connect service and have been allocated the case. After you make a phone call to John Jones (Father) explaining the referral, he reluctantly agrees for you to visit the family on the following afternoon.
The information you have received from Child Safety is fairly brief – the family apparently moved from NSW two months ago and a neighbor reported concerns related to neglect and poor supervision of the children. However, the Intake section did not feel it warranted investigation as the evidence for harm was extremely limited and there were suspicions that a neighborhood feud had led to the malicious complaint.
